Hiking

Whether alone or guided – the hiking routes in Salzburger Lungau range from gentle paths in the valley, to leisurely hikes between huts and alpine tarns, and to extended expeditions. There are approximately 70 mountain huts you can visit in the Lungau.

At the tourist office in Mauterndorf and in the house you will find a variety of maps and leaflets you can use to find a suitable hiking path.

Cycling/Mountainbike

Due to a combination of wide and open valleys and many magical side valleys, the Lungau is a famous cycling area. Cycle with pleasure on a regular bike the Mitterbergrunde or to the villages in the different side valleys.

The Lungau is also the place to be for more adventurous cycling with

480 kilometers of designated mountain bike trails.

Find an extensive description of the mountain bike trails below

Golf/ Tennis

In St. Michael im Lungau with view on the beautiful mountains you find Golfclub Katschberg-Lungau. Distance from the house is only approximately 5 km.

100 meters from the house there is a beautifully situated tennis court the guests of the Fischerkeusche may use.

Swimming

Mauterndorf has a great outdoor swimming pool and sunbathing area where you can relax and enjoy summer days. Swimming in the nearby natural lakes is also possible. Think about a fresh dive in the Prebersee or the warm water in the Millstätter See or one of the other Carinthian lakes with excellent swimming water.

Are you in need of a very relaxing day? Make use of the wellness on the groundfloor!  Would you like to have more wellness? Visit for example the wellness center of Samsunn in Mariapfarr or the wellness hotel Eggerwirt in St. Michael. Or drive to Villach to visit the KärntenTherme Warmbad-Villach.

Restaurants

There are plenty of restaurants in the area, from typical Austrian food to Italian and even Chinese. From a basic dish to Michelin star restaurant. Mauterndorf alone already has nine restaurants in walking distance! And there are many great restaurants in the other towns in the Lungau.

Cities

If the weather might be not so good, we recommend visiting one of the beautiful cities in the area:

- Salzburg (by car 1 hour 15 minutes)

- Villach (by car 1 hour)

- Klagenfurt (by car 1 hour 20 minutes)

Castle

Centuries ago, the sundial above the Mauterndorf castle gate greeted merchants, scoundrels and travelers on their way through the Lungau region. The portal where passing traders once heard the words: “Open your bag and pay the toll” is now the gate leading visitors right back to Middle Ages. Visit the museum in the castle and have a drink, lunch or diner in the restaurant.

Gliding flight

Mauterndorf airfield is Austria's highest airfield in the heart of Salzburg's southernmost district, the Lungau district of Tamsweg.

This airfield is quite unique thanks to its position at a height of 3642ft/1110m above sea level and its perfectly manicured grass runway. Due to the diverse and mountainous environment, the Mauterndorf airfield is an excellent starting point for fascinating and varied flight routes.
